Bio-Morph-Thing
Bio-Morph-Thing 001 re-imagines a metal engine in hand-carved spalted wood. Hollowed out with sockets awaiting power from a futuristic source, the form is at once familiar and strange. The textures and striations of the diseased wood render it less recognisable as a natural material and instead offer a hint of death and decay. Does this engine come from a world where scientific experimentation and nature have combined in one harmonious union or one where the interference of scientific exploration poses a growing threat? Or is it simply a leftover from the latest sci-fi film set? Bio-Morph-Thing 002 takes this even further, as old furniture legs are re-imagined as the tendrils of a new life form, probing the space around it or one single strand from a vast mycelium.
